Graphic Designer
Part-time visual lead for our online presence and publications
The Midas Project is a watchdog nonprofit that holds frontier AI developers accountable through research and advocacy. We released The OpenAI Files, a comprehensive dossier about OpenAI and their restructuring that received over 100 million views on X. Our work has earned coverage in 20+ outlets, including Time, NBC News, Reuters, and Politico. Our recently launched publication Model Republic has broken multiple original stories, including exposés of an apparent influence campaign against the AI Overwatch Act and the existence of an AI-generated news site funded by an AI industry super PAC.
About the Role
You'll help turn our work into compelling visuals people understand at a glance and remember long-term. Our published work lives across themidasproject.com, our publication Model Republic, our YouTube, our policy tracker Watchtower, and social media. You'll give all of it a sharp, consistent look and set the visual standards that our organization uses across its entire communications portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Create article header images, social cards, and share graphics for launches and ongoing coverage
- Make compelling YouTube thumbnails and other social media assets that will help our work gain further traction online
- Design data visualizations that explain our findings. In the past these have included organization structure charts, funding and influence networks, timelines and statistical analyses of complex events, and diff-style changes to documents
- Help us design reports, one-pagers, and coalition materials for journalists, policymakers, and other partners
- Maintain and extend brand guidelines and a reusable template library across our sites and channels
- Work with researchers and writers on fast-turnaround graphics when we are publishing time-sensitive stories

- Proficiency with standard design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)

- Ability to work independently, take feedback well, and meet tight deadlines
- Familiarity with major AI companies, technology risks, policy debates, and safety issues, or interest in developing it quickly
Bonus Qualifications
