About the Midas Project
We are a watchdog nonprofit that holds frontier AI developers accountable through research and advocacy. We released The OpenAI Files, a comprehensive dossier about OpenAI and their restructuring that received over 100 million views on X. Our work has earned coverage in 20+ outlets, including Time, NBC News, Reuters, and Politico. Our recently launched publication Model Republic has broken multiple original stories, including exposés of an apparent influence campaign against the AI Overwatch Act and the existence of an AI-generated news site funded by an AI industry super PAC.
About the Role
The Midas Project is breaking original stories on the AI industry’s political activities and safety practices. We need someone to help us get those stories in front of more people — both the specific audiences that matter most in shaping AI discourse and policy, and the broader public.
Responsibilities
Developing a growth and audience strategy across our platforms, helping us figure out which platforms are key for reaching our most important audiences and how to tailor our content to best reach them.
Helping us launch accounts on new platforms like Instagram and figuring out how to turn our in-depth investigations into content native to each platform.
Managing day-to-day communications across our platforms, posting about our own work while also responding to what’s happening day to day in AI.
Supporting the launch of our video program and YouTube channel, including writing scripts for videos based on our investigations and working with our existing video editors to turn videos into short-form content to share across platforms.
Supporting our press and media relations, helping us to build stronger connections with reporters and receive earned media.
What We’re Looking For
Someone with a strong track record in communications strategy and social media.
Someone who is “highly online” and an active social media user. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated success at building an online audience.
Exceptional writing skills, with a knack for how to grab a reader’s attention early on and what works well on different platforms. Experience with short-form video is also a plus.
Familiarity with the major companies, risks, and policy debates surrounding AI.
Willingness to take initiative and pick up new responsibilities as needed within a small and fast-moving team.
Strong alignment with The Midas Project’s mission and values.
